Agua Azul
When we were travelling through Chiapas, my wife wanted to visit the Agua Azul waterfalls. She visited them 21 years ago together with her parents and brother, when she was 11 years old and told me she always remembered the waterfalls very good.
When we arrived at 5 pm, after a beautful ride from San Cristobal De Las Casas, there was almost nobody there in what seemed to look like a small town.
My wife didn’t remember anything of that. Later some locals told us that she couldn’t remember any of the restaurants, shops and hotels, because there weren’t any 21 years ago.
But it (luckily) still remained very simple and basis and the waterfall remained untouched.
We rented a little bungalow that allowed dogs for about MX350 pesos ($17 dollars).
The really good thing about arriving in the late afternoon was that there were pracically no other tourists so we had the entire waterfalls for ourselves!
We ate in one of the restaurants, the food was fresh and delicious!
After we ate, we took an night stroll along the waterfalls, which was pretty cool and magical!
After a good nights sleep we had a coffee next to the waterfalls (again completely alone). The tourists start to come around 9-10 am so if you decide to come in the afternoon around 4-5 pm, you are pretty sure you’ll have the place more to yourselves.
For my wife it was really nice to come here again, and for me it was an absolutly gorgous waterfall!
It’s located about an hour and a half from Palenque, so if you are in the area, a must see!
